Montessori¢¥s Music Teaching Techniques for Young Children

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the Montessori method of music education, in order to provide references for developing music teaching techniques for young children in Korea.
The sources of this study are from concerned books, articles, periodicals and unpublished materials on the subject.
The results of the study are as follows :
1. Montessori principles are based on child development, auto education, individualized education, prepared environment and the teacher¢¥s role as a directress.
2. The musical components of the montessori method are learning to listen, learning to play instrument, simple songs sung by the children themselves and learning to move rhythmically.
3. In a Montessori classroom, education is controlled by the didactic materials available. The didactic materials for music education are musical bells, cardboard cylinders, the materials for reading musical notes, a miniature pianoforte keyboard¡¦etc.
4. Montessori¢¥s Music teaching techniques will be adapted to child-education today.
We must pay attention as follows, to merge the Montessori-method into the traditional program.
1. Arrange properly the individualized instructional technique of Montessori-method
in traditional teaching method.
2. Let the children make the vast majority of decisions for themselves to operate the didactic materials.
3. Encourage the children continuously to achive certain concept.
4. Observe scientifically the children to perceive inner need of them.
