Abstract
Background: Pediatric patients have different anatomical structures compared to adults and this makes it difficult for anesthesiologists to expose the airway. In addition the airway structure is very small, especially in neonates and infants. So we considered how we could get an easier view of the larynx with a conventional laryngoscope.

Methods: The author designed a magnifying lens attached laryngoscope to the Miller 1 straight blade. The features of the magnifying lens are as follows; 3 magnifying power, 11§¯ focal distance and 1.5§¯ diameter. To find the usefulness of this special laryngoscope, 10 laryngoscopists used this laryngoscope in neonates and infants.

Results: After using this new laryngoscope, 8 of 10 laryngoscopists responded as "excellent" in respect to laryngeal view. The time to larynx visualization and intubation was 12.3¡¾4.6, and 21.7¡¾7.3 seconds respectively. All anesthesiologists responded to the degree of satisfaction as "good (2)" or "excellent (8)".

Conclusions: This new laryngoscope was useful to facilitate a view of the larynx and would help the anesthesiologists more effectively manage the airway in neonates and infants.
