Abstract

We describe the successful management of an 1,640 g preterm low-birth weight infant of 34 weeks gestational age undergoing total repair of interrupted aortic arch. The patient has ventricular septal defect and was treated with an infusion of prostaglandin E1, which resulted in pulmonary blood flow through the ductus arteriosus to systemic circulation. The neonate was anesthetized with intravenous alfentanil, propofol, and vecuronium and corrected congenital cardiac defects under deep hyporthermic circulatory arrest. We operated modified ultrafiltration after weaning cardiopulmonary bypass and transferred to intensive care unit without special problem.
