The Effects of Epinephrine on the Heart Rate and Blood Pressure in Pediatric Tonsillectomy Patients Under Desflurane-N₂O Anesthesia

Abstract

|
Background : In this study, we examined the effect of epinephrine on the heart rate and blood pressure in pediatric tonsillectomy patients under desflurane-N_(2)O anesthesia
Methods : In one hundred thirty eight children, aged 5~10 years, who underwent elective tonsillectomy under the desflurance-N_(2)O anesthesia. We recorded blood pressure and heart rate continously after injection of epinephrine for hemostasis.
Results : After epinephrine injection, blood pressure and heart rate remained at the level of before injection.There were no significant arrhythmia after epinephrine injection.
Conclusions : We conclude that in tonsillectomy pediatric patients under desflurane anesthesia. epinephrine exogenously administered does not alter heart rate and produce arrhythmia.
