A Study on The Suicide Of The Psychiatric Inpatients

Abstract
|
|
|
The authors attempted to study how often patients completed suicide in a psychiatric hospital and what the characteristics of such patients were.
The data obtained during the period from Jan. 1980 to Oct. 1985 in Seoul National Mental Hospital.
The results were as follows;
1. During that time, 6 patients committed suicide. Half of them were male and the rest were female.
2. In the distribution of age, 5 belonged to the 3rd decade and 1 belonged .to the 4th decade.a The average age of them were 27 years.
3. In the marital status, all of them were single.
4. Half of them committed suicide during the period from the 1st to the 3rd month of hospitalization. Half of them committed suicide in autumn.
b. 4 of 6 suicide occurred during the day time and the remaining occurred during the night time.
7. In the method of suicide, jumping is used by 3 patients, suffocation by 2 and hanging by 1.
8. All of them were diagnosed as schizophrenia, chronic.
