A Study on the Mentally Ill Criminals Sentenced to Rehabilitative Custodies By The Courst

Abstract
|
|
|
The authors reviewed the charts of 29 mentally ill criminals sentenced to rehabilitative custodies into Seoul National Mental Hospital by the Korean Court during the period from Jan. 1981 to Oct. 1985.
Some of their characteristics were as follows;
1. Male to female ratio of the sample was 1.4:1.
2. In the distribution, of age, the 3rd decade was most predominant followed by the 4th, the 5th and the 2nd.? the 6th . the 7th decade in order of frequency.
3, Concerning the marital status, 44.8% of the sample were single, 41,3% were the married, 6.9% were the divorced, 3.5% were the separated and 3,5% were the bereaved.
4. Educationally, 31,0% of the sample belonged to the level of the primary school course, 31.0% to the high school, 27.6% to the college, 6,9% to the middle school and 3.5% to the illiteracy.
5. 21 of 29 cases were unemployed (including house wife in women).
6. More than half of them were the people on the outskirts of 6 major cities,
7. The psychiatric diagnostic distribution was schizophrenia in 79.5%, affective disorders in 6.9% and each of paranoia, hysterical dissociation, personality disorder and epilepsy in 3.4%.
