A Clinical Study on Prevalence of the Tardive Dyskinesia

Abstract
|
|
|
The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of the Tardive Dysknesia and the relationship between onset of Tardive Dyskinesia and period of medications.
The subjects were 78 male and 63 female patients admitted to chronic inpatient unit of Seoul National Mental Hospital. all subjects shad a history of antipsyehotic medication for more than 3months.
10 tale patients (12,8%) and 6 female patients (9.7%) revealed abnormal involuntary movements.
The period of antipsychotic medication before the onset of Tardive Dyskinesia were ranged widely from 12 months to 13 years.
All Tardive Dysknesia patients were medicated antiparkinsonian drug and most of all except 3 patients were involved in polypharmacy.
