A Family History Study of Schizophrenia


Abstract
Many well-designed studies on the family history of schizophrenia have been made for the identification of the role of genetic factor in schizophrenia which is known as a familial disorder.
The authors reviewed the history of 80 schizophrenics, 40 males and 40 females who were admitted to National Seoul Mental Hospital through patients chart and interview with family member.
The results are as follows;
1. The mean age of-the subjects was 29.9 year old and the mean duration of illness was 7.6 years.
The socioeconomic profile was 0% of high class, 52.5% of middle class, 47.5% of low class.
2. The average number of the siblings of the subjects was 4,8 and the ordinal position of the subjects was last, first and others in order.
3. The incidence rate of schizophrenia in the subjects was 7.5% in parents with 2.5% of fathers and 5% of mothers, 10% in siblings with 5% of brothers and 5% of sisters.
