A brief communication on adolescent anxiety disorder

Kwack Young-Sook
Abstract
Anxiety is a basic human emotion that in mi.¢¥.d and transient forms is a part of everyone¢¥s daily experience. Mild to moderately intense anxiety also is experienced as a normal part of the developmental process.
The early adolescent must cope with the changes attendant to puberty-biological, cognitive, psychological and sociocultural struggling to maintain mastery and control in the face of many competing, conflicting and regressive pressures. The pubertal child tends to deny. anxieties and express conflicts in terms of behavior, attitude and moods. This ¢¥developmental¢¥ anxiety is an important aspect of the clinical evaluation of anxiety in children and adolescents.
Author presented a case of 13-year-old adolescent girl with obsessive rumination and anxiety. This brief review of anxiety related to developmental pressure highlights the importance of distinguishing the normal, necessary and positive role of anxiety from pathological anxiety states of childhood and adolescence.
