A Study on the Guidelines for the Training Curriculum for Multicultural Family Counselors -The Current Situation of Multicultural Family Counseling Service and the Educational Needs of the Counselors-

Abstract

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to find the guidelines of the training curriculum for the multicultural family counselors by conducting a qualitative study on the current situation of multicultural family counseling service and the educational needs of the counselors.
Methods: The study was conducted through a focus group interview on five counselors at multicultural family support centers. Collected data were analyzed by different categories, according to Krueger's guideline (1998).
Results: The major findings were divided into the two themes: ¡°The Current Situation of Counseling Service¡± and ¡°The Educational Needs of the Counselors.¡± Under those themes were 9 categories and 32 sub-categories.
Conclusions: Based on the study results, the paper suggests a few guidelines for the training program of multicultural family counselors.
