A Case Study on Family Therapy for a Daughter with Sociophobia Due to Family of Origin's Dysfunctional Communication -An Application of MRI Communication Model and Bowen¡¯s Family Systems Theory-

Abstract
Objectives: This study investigated the relationship between sociophobia and family system characteristics. The researchers identified and examined factors affecting the daughter¡¯s sociophobia and family therapy intervention strategies as well as the process and effectiveness of the intervention.

Methods: The data, which consisted of recordings and transcripts from 10 family therapy sessions, were analyzed by constant comparative analysis, matrix, and network display.

Results: The study found dysfunctional communication patterns and conflicts with the family of origin as factors influencing the daughter's sociophobia. The study identified several family therapy intervention strategies for sociophobia and explicated the changes in the family members¡¯ relationships based on those interventions.

Conclusions: Family therapy interventions enhanced the family members¡¯ functional communication skills and helped reduce the daughter¡¯s sociophobic symptoms.
