Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of family of origin and marital intimacy on couples.
Methods: The subjects for this study were 193 married couples from Seoul and the Gyeonggi Province. Research was conducted via questionnaire, using a Family of Origin Strengths scale and a Marital Intimacy scale. Data analysis produced an Actor and Partner Effect using an APIM Analysis of Interaction Model through SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 18.0.
Results: The couples¡¯ scores on the Family of Origin Strength scale and the Marital Intimacy scale indicated a higher quality of bond between wives and their families-of origin (FOO) than between husbands and their FOO. According to the APIM analysis, the effect of these bonds had a significant effect on marital intimacy. The analysis also revealed that the husbands¡¯ effects on marital intimacy were greater than their wives¡¯.

Conclusions: These results carry important implications for marriage counseling and for further research.
