Strengthening Family Counseling Services at Healthy Family Support Centers for Families in Crisis

Abstract

|
Objectives: This study focused on ideas for strengthening family counseling services at Healthy Family Support Centers to help families effectively cope with various types of family crises.
Methods: Using a critical literature review method, the study evaluated definitions of the term “family crisis” and its related terminologies, and it assessed the condition of family counseling services provided at the various Centers.
Results: The study identified several options for strengthening family counseling services at the Centers, including a) providing a roadmap for establishing an identity as a professional family counseling service agency; b) establishing the necessity of universal and unique approaches of family counseling, relative to the context of the family crisis; c) providing various opportunities of education and training for family counseling personnel; d) establishing an effective networking of agencies and/or institutes related to family counseling services; and (e) constructing diverse family counseling approaches.
Conclusions: The study met the expectation of providing a useful map for family counseling personnel at the Centers.
