Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to develop a program for the enhancement of family resilience in families with elders affected by dementia.

Methods: Based on a literature review of families with elders affected by dementia, and drawing on the conceptual framework of ¡°Family Resilience¡± by Walsh, the authors designed and implemented a program focused on belief systems, organizational patterns, and the communication process. The program was applied to eight family members for six sessions, at two hours a session per week. The Wilcoxon Signed Ranks test was used to conduct the pre-post comparative analysis of the program. An evaluation analysis on the participants was also conducted.

Result: The pre-post comparative analysis showed a significant enhancement in family organizational patterns and communication process, as well as an improvement in the family belief system score, although the latter was statistically insignificant. The evaluation analysis of the participants also displayed enhancement in family belief system, organizational patterns, and communication process.

Conclusions: An effective program to enhance family resilience of families with elders affected by dementia was successfully developed.
