Abstract

Objectives: This study investigated how soldiers¡¯ self- resilience and sense of psychological independence acts as an intermediary in relation to the military-service adaptations of soldiers perceived to have healthy family relationships.
Methods: Through correlation analysis, structural equation modeling (using AMOS), and Sobel test methods, data were analyzed from 229 soldiers located in Cheolwon Kun and Kwangwon Provinces.
Results: The perception of having a healthy family directly affected soldiers¡¯ adjustment to military life; however, it also indirectly affected this adjustment by virtue of the positive correlation between a healthy family and the soldiers¡¯ self-resilience and psychological independence.
Conclusions: A healthy family is one of the major factors influencing self-resilience in the military and psychological independence from parents. Such information can contribute to the development of education and counseling intervention programs designed to prevent negative issues and stress among soldiers.
