The Influence of Attachment Injury and Emotion Regulation on Marital Satisfaction: Applying the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of attachment injury and emotion regulation on marital satisfaction.

Methods: A total 228 pairs of husbands and wives were included in the study. The data were analyzed using the Actor-Partner Interdependent Model (APIM).

Results: The actor effect of attachment injury on avoidant emotional regulation and marital satisfaction was found to be significant for both husbands and wives. The partner effect of attachment injury on marital satisfaction was significant in both the husbands and wives but avoidant emotional regulation was not significant for the husbands, only for the wives. The actor and partner effect of avoidant emotional regulation on marital satisfaction was different in husbands and wives.
Conclusions: To enhance marital satisfaction of couples in research and couple therapy, it is necessary to consider attachment injury and avoidant emotion regulation.
