Preventing Adolescent Addiction of Digital Devices: A Longitudinal Study of Addiction Interaction between Digital Devices

Abstract

|
Objectives: This study examined the addiction interaction between mobile-phone and computer use.
Methods: Using three waves from the Korea Child and Youth Panel Survey, the researcher performed panel regression analysis, including a random and fixed-effects model.
Results: Increased time spent using computers has led to more severe addiction to mobile phones. This relation supports the contention that mobile phones and computers interactively accelerate (or intensify) users’ addiction to digital devices. Significant variables included delinquent tendencies, depression, aggression, and parenting abuse and neglect. The dummy variable of year was also significant.
Conclusions: This study concludes with a discussion of therapeutic implications in regards to prevention and intervention for adolescent digital device addiction.
