The Present Condition and Practice of Korean Family Therapy: Focusing on Members of the Association

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for understanding the condition of family therapy by conducting a survey on the status of family counseling activities for domestic counselors and suggesting the direction of development of family counseling and research.

Methods: The researchers contacted 148 family therapists working nationwide in various clinics, health and family support centers, community mental health agencies, social welfare agencies, and private counseling agencies.

Results: First, the family counselors investigated the status of the institutions that are conducting family counseling. Second, the qualifications of family counselors and the percentage of progress of family counseling were examined. Third, follow-up and evaluation of the cases of family counselors were conducted. Fourth, the status of education and training of supervisors was surveyed.

Conclusions: Issues and the status of the institutionalization of Korean family counselor qualifications were discussed.
