A Study on the Improvement of Qualification System for Family Therapy Certificates

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to explore the current status of family therapy certificates in Korea and to suggest the improvement directions for regulations.

Methods: The researchers reviewed guidelines for certificates qualification system of the four family therapy related associations including Korean Association of Family Therapy, Korea Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy Association, Korean Society of Narrative Therapy, and Korea Association of Solution-Focused Therapy and compared with a national license such as Korean Youth counselors.

Results: The outcome shows that family therapy certificates that has issued by private sector have been rapidly increased while related national qualification system has been absent. Although the associations¡¯ qualification systems are relatively competitive, the certificates do not guarantee the professional jobs to members.

Conclusion: Based on the findings, the researchers have suggested the improvement directions for family therapy certificates system that can contribute lay people¡¯s well-being
