Shin Hea-Jong

Jang Eun-Sook
Abstract
Objective: This article presents strength-perspective based family therapeutic strategies for the families of children with disability.

Methods: In the course of research the authors reviewed prior studies on the experience and hardships of families of children with disability and looked for therapeutic perspectives and family therapy models that are helpful for those families.

Result: As a result, family strength-perspective based therapeutic strategies for the families of children with disability are developed.

Conclusions: Families of children with disability have difficulties in managing family problems. Family therapists or family service workers in relevant centers or organizations have not been able to apply family therapy freely for different reasons. The authors have drawn 13 therapeutic strategies that can be applied in various stages of family therapy and with all family members or in sub-systems of the family. These strategies are expected to be helpful for family therapists in recovering the families¡¯ functioning, enhancing their feeling of happiness, improving their quality of life, and strengthening sub-systems¡¯ and members¡¯ self-efficacy
