A Narrative Inquiry of Experiences of Families Bereaved by Suicide

Abstract
|
|
|
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to explore the experience and the meaning of post-bereavement of the families who have lost a family member to suicide.
Methods: We interviewed three participants who had lost a family member to suicide more than three years ago and are now relatively stable. Data collection through in-depth interviews was conducted from March to July 2019, and a total of two to three interviews was conducted per participant. Data analysis, conducted with methods derived from Clandinin and Connelly (2000), included “present on the site,” “moving to field text,” “site text composition,” “experience meaning composition,” and “research text composition.”

Conclusions: The results of this study can be used as a resource for effective counseling for families that experience family loss to suicide by providing a more in-depth understanding of the lives and experiences of the bereaved families who share the experience.
