Conceptualization and Research Trends of Korea on Relationship Addiction

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to conceptualize and analyze research trends of Korea on relationship addiction in order to provide implications for future research.

Methods: To do this, this study examined the meaning of the term ¡°relationship addiction¡± and analyzed trends by time, research subject, research method, including statistical analysis and measurement tool, and research theme on the basis of 76 studies in major Korean journals, as well as master theses and doctoral dissertations.

Results: First, relationship addiction refers to seeking personal fulfillment in a particular person or relationship. Second, studies of relationship addiction have been published continuously, and third, the majority of subjects are college and graduate students. Fourth, most studies were designed with quantitative research, and regression analysis was used the most, followed by structural equation. In terms of the use of measuring tools, Relationship Addiction Questionnaires (RAQ-30) are the most frequently used. Finally, most studies have examined the relationships between relationship addiction and other social-psychological variables.

Conclusions: Based on the results, this study presents recommendations for future studies.
