Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the rejection sensitivity, emotional clarity and self-compassion on the dysfunctional communication of newlywed married males and females, so as to provide a basis for intervention in couple counseling and to contribute to improved couple relationships by reducing and preventing dysfunctional couple communication.

Methods: The study sample consisted of 222 newlywed married males and females, who have been married for less than 7 years and haven¡¯t had a child. The collected data was analyzed using SPSS Win 23.0.

Results: As a result of examining the relative influence of the impact of rejection sensitivity, emotional clarity and self-compassion on the dysfunctional communication of newlywed married males and females, the study found that self-compassion was the best predictor. The sub-variants were found to have an effect on dysfunctional couple communication in the order of isolation, self-judgment, and emotional attention.

Conclusions: Couple counselors need to help couples gain insight into how their respective self-compassion, emotional clarity, and rejection sensitivity are affecting marital relationships during counseling, and to prevent dysfunctional couple communication by improving the level of self-compassion.
