Social Network Analysis of News Articles on Family Counseling

Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to explore social awareness surrounding family counseling by social network analysis through methods of big data analysis.

Methods: News articles that were searched under the keyword ¡°family counseling¡± over a period of one year were collected from 17 media networks, with which social network analysis was conducted. The data analysis of this study utilized text mining and opinion mining analyzer methods.

Results: First, keywords related to ¡°counseling service¡±, ¡°child¡±, ¡°recognition¡±, and ¡°problem¡± were found to be at the top frequency, while the associations of keywords showed that the words ¡°recognition¡±, ¡°problem¡±, ¡°child¡±, ¡°story¡±, ¡°individual¡±, ¡°social¡±, ¡°women¡±, and ¡°parent¡± were highly influential. Second, the same attribute factors of the major words were ¡°sexual violence issue factor¡±, ¡°recognition and cost factor¡±, ¡°family member factor¡±, ¡°hospital factor¡±, ¡°school factor¡±, ¡°crisis factor¡±, and ¡°psychological symptom factor¡±. Third, within each factor group, perpetrators, perceptions, doctors, experts, students, and depression showed the greatest impact; and the greater their influence, the more statistically significant the perception of the need for family counseling was found to be.

Conclusions: This study contributes to the field of family counseling as a meaningful exploratory study of the factors for promoting family counseling by supplementing research and case analysis results based on existing surveys.
