Abstract
Headaches are a common problem in primary medicine. Migraines, tension-type headaches, and cluster headaches constitute most primary headaches. Secondary headaches come from symptoms of organic disease. The International
Headache Society system for the classification of headaches can assist in the diagnosis and treatment of headaches. The initial evaluation of headaches requires a complete history and physical examination. In most primary headaches, neuroimaging is not required. Prophylactic treatment of chronic headaches is recommended to reduce the potential of drug overuse headaches.
