Abstract
Background: This study was performed to examine the underlying mechanism, risk factors, and relationship between leaky gut syndrome and atrophic gastritis.

Methods: History-taking was performed with a special set of questionnaires to elaborate on the patient¡¯s general information, medical status, and symptoms of leaky gut syndrome. Statistical analysis was then conducted using an independent t-test, chisquare test, and linear regression analysis to analyze the relationship between leaky gut syndrome and atrophic gastritis.

Results: Leaky gut syndrome has not proven to be correlated with atrophic gastritis. But several risk factors including stress, previous use of medication, and body mass index were correlated with leaky gut syndrome. Additionally, the patients were divided into two groups based on the score of leaky gut syndrome for the purpose of comparison analysis. The test variables such as proportion of neutrophil, monocyte, and eosinophil under leukocyte test were shown to have a statistically significant difference between the two groups.

Conclusion: With the current findings, the study does not guarantee a proportional relationship between leaky gut syndrome and atrophic gastritis. In addition, some vulnerable factors such as diagnostic method and means of analysis of the results existed throughout the study. Therefore, it is crucial that the study be amended and reviewed continuously to establish a sounder basis for supporting the hypothesis.
