Background : Family function is known to be a factor that can have an influence on the physical and psychological health status of family members. The purpose of this study was to investigate the status of eating attitude and related factors among healthy adults, and to confirm the association between family function and eating attitude.
Methods : We studied 189 subjects who enrolled for health promotion at Osan Hankook Hospital from March 2015 to April 2015. The questionnaire included the Eating Attitude Test (EAT) to evaluate eating attitude, Family APGAR to evaluate family function, and questions on the subjects¡¯ general characteristics. Data were analyzed using univariate analysis and multiple logistic regression.
Results : An abnormal eating attitude (EAT-26 score ¡Ã 20) was noted in 27.5% of the subjects. In univariate analysis, EAT-26 score significantly differed with respect to family function (P = 0.001), education (P = 0.007), and age (P < 0.001). In multiple logistic regression analysis, family function (OR: 2.434, 95% CI, 1.203 to 4.924), education (OR: 3.561, 5% CI, 1.142 to 11.106), and age (OR: 0.903, 5% CI, 0.843 to 0.967) were found to be related to EAT-26 score.
Conclusion : This study reveals several factors that are associated with eating attitude. Among these factors, family function is a modifiable factor. It could also be concluded that family function is modifiable and essential for the improvement of eating attitude overall health.
