Abstract
Background : The principal objective of the present study was to examine the association of insulin resistance and glycated hemoglobin level with the presenceofcolorectal polyps in subjects who underwent colonoscopy.

Methods : A total of 572 subjects were selected from among adults who underwent colonoscopy (age ¡Ã 30 years) at a health promotion center between September 1, 2013 and October 31, 2014. We evaluated body mass index, abdominal circumference, fasting glucose level, insulin level and glycated hemoglobin level. We also estimated the homeostasis model assessment insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR).

Results : The mean fasting glucose level, insulin level, HOMA-IR and glycated hemoglobin level were significantly higher in subjects with colorectal polyps(P<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that; insulin resistance(OR 1.51, 95% CI, 1.02-2.22) andglycated hemoglobin level (OR 3.93, 95% CI, 1.42-10.88) were significantly associated with the presence of colorectal polyps.

Conclusion : Insulin resistance and glycated hemoglobin level were closely related to the presence of colorectal polyps. Therefore, increased insulin resistance and glycated hemoglobin level could be prognostic factor to colorectal polyp¡¯s prevalence.
