Abstract
Background : Chronic low-grade inflammation is a risk factor for metabolic syndrome, CVD and DM. The aim of the present study was to determine the association between C-reactive protein and QTc interval.

Methods & materials : We analyzed 328 Korean female subjects at a health promotion center of a Gangnam Severance hospital from July, 2007 to October, 2008. The standard 12-lead electrocardiogram measured the QTc interval. Multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to determine the relationship between C-reactive protein (CRP) and QTc.

Result : After adjusting for age, BMI, hypertension, diabetes, smoking, calcium, potassium, total cholesterol, and HDL cholesterol, CRP was independently and positively associated with QTc (p = 0.023) in women.

Conclusion : This study demonstrates a positive relationship between CRP and QTc interval. These findings indicate that QTc interval may be closely related with subclinical low-grade inflammation.
