Abstract
Background: In the early stage, our goal was to stop the influx of disease from overseas and prevention of secondary community outbreaks through enhanced early detection. As the influenza had spread widely, our tactics switched to minimizing social and economic impact and preventing severe cases.

Methods: Research was done to patients who visited Gijanggun Health Center with influenza like illness between 28 April 2009 and 31 March 2010. Statistical analysis was performed using chi-square test (P-value) and Fisher¡¯s exact test.

Results: Eighteen patients (52.9%) maintained initial attitude for going abroad against guideline. Ten patients (83.8%) were quarantined. Eight schools (53.3%) were closed. Two hundred and seventy-two patients (54%) want a positive inspection, 264 patients (52.4%) want a probable inspection, and 276 patients (54.8%) want antiviral agents. Conclusion: Antiviral agents, quarantine, closure of schools, the education and support of health care workers, and vaccination were not enough to respond to the pandemic.
