Abstract
Background : The nutritional statuses of 48 patients with proven gynecological cancer who were undergoing chemotherapy were assessed because maintenance of a good nutritional status is critical for cancer patients.

Methods : Forty-eight women with diagnosed cancers (e.g., cervical, endometrial, ovarian cancers) participated in a nutritional assessment conducted using the Patient-Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG-SGA) and three-day food record method.

Results : Compared with baseline values, the average daily calorie, protein, vitamin D, biotin, and magnesium intakes were low. The average PG-SGA score of the 48 female cancer patients was 6.2 points; scores between 4 and 8 points were most common (62.5%). The prevalence of malnutrition among these patients was found to be 27%. Patients¡¯ PG-SGA scores were associated with reduced intakes of calories, vitamin D, biotin, and magnesium. For each 1-point increase in the PG-SGA score, the intakes of calories, vitamin D, biotin, and magnesium were reduced by 0.705 kcal, 0.663 ¥ìg, 0.795 ¥ìg, and 0.6 mg, respectively.

Conclusion : Increased daily intakes of calories and protein and the avoidance of vitamin D, biotin, and magnesium deficiencies, in particular, are necessary for the better nutritional management of female cancer patients receiving clinical chemotherapy.
