Background : The prevalence and mortality of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease have increased in recent years. Because there is an overlap between stroke and coronary heart disease, this case-control study was undertaken to elucidate the relationship between cerebral infarction and significant (¡Ã50%) coronary artery stenosis by using coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA).
Methods : We enrolled patients with cerebral infarction documented with neuroimaging who underwent coronary CTA and normal controls who visited Hyosung Hospital for a general health examination and underwent coronary CTA from January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2013.
Results : Multivariable logistic regression revealed critical and independent correlations between cerebral infarction and significant stenosis (¡Ã50%) of coronary arteries (odds ratio, 5.54; 95% confidence interval, 2.45-12.06; P<0.001)
Conclusion : Coronary CTA may be useful in patients with cerebral infarction for detection of increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
