Background : Prevalence of cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis is significantly increasing in Korea. This study was performed to evaluate the correlation between serum lipid levels and osteoporosis in postmenopausal Korean women.
Methods : Data from the 2010?2011 Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were analyzed. After the subjects were classified into three groups (osteoporosis, osteopenia, or normal) by lumbar or femur bone mineral density (BMD), the correlation between serum lipids and BMD was analyzed.
Results : Average age was significantly higher in the osteoporosis group (P<0.001). However, there was no statistical significance between BMD and serum lipid levels.
Conclusion : There was no correlation between serum lipids and BMD in postmenopausal Korean women.
