Relationship between Obesity and Prevalance of Adult Allergic Disease: The Sixth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2013)

Abstract

|
Background: Asthma, atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis is associated with each other. However, research on the correlation among the prevalence of allergic diseases for the Korean adults is still insufficient. Also relationship between the degree of obesity and allergic diseases is still controversial.
Methods: The Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey in 2013 was utilized. We analyzed the relationship among allergic diseases and we analyzed the relationship between the degree of obesity and allergic diseases.
Results: In men and women of all surveyed, the correlation between the prevalence of atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis is high (P=0.000). In women of all survey, the correlation between the prevalence of asthma and allergic rhinitis is high (P=0.037). In the full survey, the odds ratio of allergic diseases according to the degree of obesity of Korean adult were not show any significant relationship.
Conclusion: In adults, allergic diseases has been analyzed that there is a significant relationship. Allergic diseases have been expressed more women than men. The odds ratio of allergic diseases according to the degree of obesity of Korean adult were not show any significant relationship.
