Abstract
Background: Postmenopausal status increases the risk of metabolic syndrome. Abdominal obesity is the most important criterion of metabolic syndrome. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors associated with abdominal obesity among postmenopausal women.

Methods: We included 2,217 women aged between 45 and 65 years who participated in the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2010 and 2012. We analyzed the factors influencing abdominal obesity with logistic regression.

Results: The mean waist circumference of this population was 81.37¡¾8.97 cm and the prevalence of abdominal obesity was 32.9%. Abdominal obesity was associated with age (odds ratio [OR], 1.030; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.005?1.054), parity (OR, 1.170; 95% CI, 1.043?1.312), education (OR, 0.763; 95% CI, 0.684?0.853), and use of hormone replacement therapy (OR, 0.735; 95% CI, 0.572?0.945).

Conclusion: We found that abdominal obesity was associated with age, education, parity, and use of hormone replacement therapy.
