Abstract
Background: Obesity, through various mechanisms, is associated with raised intraocular pressure. We aimed to analyze this association in Korean adults.

Methods: We included 15,382 adults who participated in the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2010 and 2012. We defined obesity according to body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC) measurements. We then analyzed using linear regression analysis and analysis of covariance the association between obesity and intraocular pressure.

Results: Intraocular pressure was significantly associated with BMI and WC in both men and women (P<0.001 for both). Increases in BMI (¥â=0.061, R2=0.017, P<0.001 in men; ¥â=0.054, R2=0.015, P<0.001 in women) and WC (¥â=0.023, R2=0.017, P<0.001 in men; ¥â=0.023, R2=0.016, P<0.001 in women) were proportional to increases in intraocular pressure.

Conclusion: Obesity showed a positive linear association with intraocular pressure among Korean adults.
