Background: This study investigated the association between hemoglobin level and blood pressure using a representative sample of the Korean population.
Methods: We used data from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2014. A complex samples general linear model was used to assess the association between hemoglobin level and mean arterial blood pressure. All results were controlled for age, sex, and body mass index.
Results: With each increase in hemoglobin level of 1 g/dL, mean arterial blood pressure increased by 1.224 mmHg and 1.193 mmHg in men and women, respectively.
Conclusion: Relatively high hemoglobin level can be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.
