Background: We aimed to assess the association between hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection and metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus (type 2 DM).
Methods: This study was based on data obtained from the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys 2012?2014 and included 8,382 participants aged ¡Ã19 years. Metabolic syndrome was defined according to the National Cholesterol Education Program (Adult Treatment Panel III). Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between HCV infection and metabolic syndrome and type 2 DM.
Results: Metabolic syndrome was associated with an HCV infection (odds ratio, 1.502; 95% confidence interval, 0.794?2.843). Additionally, DM was associated with an HCV infection (P<0.05).
