Metabolic syndrome was defined according to the National Cholesterol Education Program (Adult Treatment Panel III). Logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between HCV infection and metabolic syndrome and type 2 DM.

Results: Metabolic syndrome was associated with an HCV infection (odds ratio, 1.502; 95% confidence interval, 0.794?2.843). Additionally, DM was associated with an HCV infection (P<0.05).
