Abstract
Background: This is an investigation of the current Pharmaceutical Affairs Law and The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety provisions without the safety and efficacy examination of clinical trials on Korean traditional medicine. A survey was conducted about awareness of the legal regulation of Korean traditional medicine and satisfaction with taking Korean traditional medicine and intention to stop taking such medicine as prescribed by a physician.

Methods: A survey was conducted at a hospital between March 19 and 27, 2016. A total of 242 people from the general public were enrolled in the study and observed through statistical analysis.

Results: The analytical research showed that 71.0% of the general public did not know about the absence of a regulating law, 48.7% agreed with the need for stricter regulation of Korean traditional medicine through the safety and efficacy examination of clinical trials, and 76.4% intended to stop taking Korean traditional medicine as prescribed by a physician.

Conclusion: The general public demands legal provisions on Korean traditional medicine that would safeguard them.
