Abstract
Background: High-risk drinking is a known risk factor of hypertension. In Korea, young women who engage in economic activities tend to drink more alcohol now than in the past. In this study, we investigated the relationship between the amount of alcohol intake and hypertension in economically active women.

Methods: Data were derived from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 2014?2015. The subjects were 2,840 women aged >19 years. We divided the subjects into three groups according to their alcohol consumptions as follows: no, adequate, and high-risk alcohol consumptions. We used binomial logistic regression to analyze the association between the amount alcohol consumption and hypertension.

Results: After adjusting for confounding factors, compared with the non-alcohol drinking group, the adequate and high-risk alcohol consumption groups had odds ratios of hypertension of 0.799 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.605?1.056) and 0.341 (95% CI, 0.813?2.212), respectively.

Conclusion: We found no relationship between the amount of alcohol consumption and hypertension in the Korean women in this study who engaged in economic activities.
