Background: A growing number of people in the world are estimated to have difficulties in functioning. People with disabilities tend to experience chronic health problems at an earlier age than the general population and are more vulnerable to many diseases. However, many disabled people face greater barriers in accessing primary health care services. This study focuses on the strategy to improve accessibility and provide equal opportunities for the health of persons with disabilities.
Methods: We interviewed 12 disabled people for 120 minutes. Interview questions were composed of three categories including health status, use of health services, and opinions about the proposed model for health care of the disabled.
Results: Interviewees with disabilities reported various barriers to improving their health status. They agreed that the proposed model for health care of the disabled would meet the needs for comprehensive and individualized health services.
Conclusion: We expect the disabled to overcome barriers in health care after the implementation of the strategy for the health promotion of people with disabilities.
