Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on trabecular area and physiological change in the ovariectomized osteoporotic rats. This experiment was performed to investigate antiosteoporosis effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on osteoporosis induced by both ovariectomy in rats. So rats were divided into sham group and OVX group. OVX groups were divided into control, HOT groups. The ratios of trabecular area seen in epiphysis and diaphysis of tibia and physiological change were as follows. 1. In the epiphysis of tibia, control group showed a significant decrease of 21.4% in comparison with sham group.(P<0.0001) HOT groups showed a signficant increase of 28.5% in comparison with control group.(P<0.05) 2. In the diaphysis of tibia, control group showed a significant decrease of 53% in comparison with sham group.(P<0.0001) HOT group showed a signficant increase of 48.5% in comparison with control group.(P<0.05) 3. In the osteocalcin, control group showed a significant increase in comparison with HOT group was decrease in comparison with control group. But a signficance was not noted 4. In the bone alkaline phosphatase(BALP), control group showed a significant increase in comparison with sham group.(P<0.05) HOT group showed a signficant decrease in comparison with control group.( P<0.05) 6. In the GOT, control group showed a little increase in comparison with sham group. HOT group showed a decrease in comparison with control group. But a signficance was not noted
7. In the GPT, control group showed a little increase in comparison with sham group. HOT group showed a decrease in comparison with control group. But a signficance was not noted. These results might suggest that Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy prevented the decrease of trabecular area and bone mass, activated osteogenesis through osteoblasts proliferation in the ovariectomized osteoporotic rats.
