Public health care awareness and related factors of medical staff at a national university hospital

Abstract
Objective: The successful role of public health institutions requires the recognition of workers' role as public health service providers and organic cooperation among occupations. This study analyzed the awareness status of public health care among employs in public medical institutions and analyzed the differences in awareness by occupations and the factors affecting the awareness.

Methods: The National University Hospital workers were selected for the study, and 964 employs (103 doctors, 569 nurses, 128 health technicians and 164 others) were completed using a online survey. The data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN (ver. 24.0) statistical program. A frequency analysis was conducted for the priorities of public health projects according to whether the participation in the public health plan, the participation in the medical service, and the public health interest. The differences in the scores of the functional performance scores for public health projects were analyzed using Independent-samples t-test. The difference of public health priorities, evaluation scores, and perceptions, interests, and satisfactions of public health care by occupations were analyzed using ANOVA with Sheffe 'post hoc test. The correlation between awareness, interest, and satisfaction was analyzed using Corelation Analysis. The logistic regression analysis was used to determine the 95% confidence intervals for the odds ratio and odds ratio. The significance level of all statistics was P <0.05.

Results: Regarding the public health care that public health care institutions should perform, The employs considered as supporting vulnerable groups and supplying health care more important. the Evaluation of function performance scores for Disaster and Infectious Disease Response and supporting vulnerable groups were high. The difference in awareness among groups divided by participation in public health plan, participation in medical service activities, and interest in public health was insignificant. Awareness, interest, and satisfaction of public health care were positively correlated. The factors related to public health care awareness were analyzed as interest and satisfaction.

Conclusions: There was a positive correlation between public health care perception, interest, and satisfaction, and the factors related to public health care were analyzed with interest and satisfaction. Therefore, public health care awareness can be improved through employees¡¯ awareness raising activities. If employees realize that public health is not only a function of supporting vulnerable groups, but also most of the work they perform, they will be committed to their work with a sense of mission. As a result, the quality of public health services will be improved.
