The Effect of Power Breathe K5 and Aerobic Exercise on Diaphragm

Abstract
Purpose : We intent to use data obtained from analyzing changes in distance, in density and in thickness of diaphragm, the agonistic muscle among respiratory muscles, collected by offering aerobic exercise through treadmill and bicycle ergometer and Power breath K5 to those with lessened physical abilities, as preliminary data of respiratory muscle strengthening program.

Methods : We placed random 30 women in Gwangju K University 20's, 15 in treadmill and other 15 in bicycle ergometer, and exercised from 30th of June 2014 to 25th of July of same year. Before their aerobic exercise, by using Power Breath K5, we made test subjects to bite their personal mouthpiece, breath out residual volume in their lung as much as they can and breath in rapidly and strongly, in total of 3 sets and make them perform same exercise by using Auto Mode - veryright (40% resistance of maximal suction force), 30 times for both groups. For treadmill, subjects exercised for 30 min at 5km/h, 3 times per week, in a proper standing position. For bicycle ergometer, each subjects exercised for 30 min at different resistance 50 w of power about 40 rpm, 3 times per week, with their back straight and extension their knee joint 120 degree from the bottom of pedal.

Results : After analyzing changes in distance of subject's diaphragm, data showed significant difference in the two groups of change over time.

Conclusion : We can conclude that respiratory muscle training and aerobic exercise both have a positive effect to increase
diaphragm's movement and also help improvement of people's respiratory capability. Therefore we believe that these can
be used as preliminary data of exercise program among physical therapy intervene method.
