Three years medical trend analysis of intervertebral disc disorder

Abstract
Objectives : This study aimed to analyze the clinical data of intervertebral disc disorder in Korea.

Methods : We use the statistics data of Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service from 2011 to 2013. All codes that corresponds to M51 below is limited to intervertebral disc disorder of this study. Kinds of disorder, number of patients and medical costs were analyzed. Only to the statistics of 2013, we analyzed different gender and age, the distribution of sub-classified disease (fourth?character subdivisions).

Result ; 4.1% of the total population had medical treatment with intervertebral disc disorder. Korean medicine is 0.4% and western medi-cine is 3.7%. The medical costs for both Korean medicine and western medicine treatment are increasing 1.26 and 1.12 times over 3 years, respectively. The number of patients for Korean medicine is decreasing 0.9 times and the number of patients for western medicine is increasing slowly. Total medical spent and total number of patients for Korean medicine are less than 10% compared to the western medicine. Analysis results in 2013, female patients showed a lot of distribution than male patients. By age, Korean medicine and western medicine showed different distribution. Korean medicine and western medicine all showed the highest distribution is M511, in the rest of the order was a difference.

Conclusions : This study, as a result of basic health insurance information analysis, has its meaning. It might be helpful to draw Korean medical treatment strategy for intervertebral disc disorder.
