Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of decompression treatment for herniated intervertebral lumbar disc.

Methods: Thirty eight patients with a diagnosis of herniated intervertebral lumbar disc(HIVD) by CT or MRI were treated with decompression treatment from January, 2013 to August, 2015. They were analyzed according to sex, age, the period of disease, admission day, radiating pain and disc herniation level. Patients were evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS) before treatment, after 5th treatment, after 10th treatment and before discharge. And we evaluated the degree of improvement by the status of patients with pain and physical examination after treatment.

Results: VAS score of patients treated with decompression treatment significantly decreased from 8.5¡¾1.7 to 3.1¡¾1.6 and effective rate of patients receiving decompression treatment was 97.4%. VAS of patients accompanied by radiating pain was significantly lower than the patients no radiating pain.

Conclusions: This study suggests that decompression treatment is considered to be effective and reduce the duration of treatment on patients with herniated intervertebral lumbar disc.
