Abstract
Objectives£ºThe purpose of this study was to determine the reliability and validity of the Korean version of Body Weight, Image and Self-Esteem evaluation questionnaire (B-WISE-K).

Methods£ºTotal ninety-five inpatients or outpatients, in Department of Psychiatry at Seoul National Hospital, completed the BWISE- K. Of these 93 subjects, Sixty-seven subjects were administered the Short Form-36 and Self Esteem Scale to verify the convergent validity. A subset of subjects (n=43) refilled B-WISE-K for test-retest reliability. To verify discriminant validity, we compared B-WISE-K means between recently weight-gain group (n=16) and non-weight-gain group (n=27).

Results£ºCronbach¡¯s alpha coefficient was .524. Pearson correlation coefficient to examine test-retest reliability was range from .711 to .724 (p<.001). The Pearson correlation coefficients between SF-36, SES and B-WISE-K were .633 and .528, respectively (p<.001, p<.001). The result of factor analysis supported the theoretical structure identical to the original scale. Although there was no statistical significant difference (p=.085) between recently weight-gain group and non-weight-gain group, there was a tendency toward discriminant validity.

Conclusion£ºThe findings supported that B-WISE-K is a reasonable and valid tool for measuring body image and self esteem. However, some limitation needs further study to confirm and expand this finding.
