Abstract
The general guideline for the duration of antipsychotic treatment in patients with first episode psychosis is 1-2 years. During this time, psychiatrists need to touch and manage many clinical issues to produce best outcome such as further reduction and maintenance of symptoms, compliance, social adaptation, gaining of insight, relapse prevention, etc. In this paper, practical tips and future suggestions regarding the clinical issues of improving compliance and negative symptoms and golden principles and practical attitude related to cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychoeducation and dynamic issues are described. It is hoped that our paper would help clinicians to offer a comprehensive and optimal psychotherapy to the patients with first episode psychosis in critical period.
