Assessment of Long-term Hypospadias Repair Results
Park Kwan-Jin

Choi Hwang
Abstract
Despite the fact that hypospadias is common and is usually treated by early repair, little has been reported on the long-term problems that the patients suffer. One reason would be that most available long-term results were related to the procedures that are now rarely applied. The long-term results of hypospadias repair could be viewed into 1) complications 2) micturition 3) sexual function and 4) cosmesis. Regarding complications, some procedures turned out to be prone to specific complications. Usually, lasting voiding dysfunction does not affect most patients, however up to 40% with severe hypospadias can have some degree of voiding problems. We also noted that sexual function was not affected by the history for repair of hypospadias. Various ranges of results were reported in cosmetic evaluation. We recognized cross-cultural difference of general satisfaction rate between oriental and western countries. Patients are usually unsatisfactory for either their flaccid penile length or the postoperative meatal position. There is a need for follow-up of patients with hypospadias in their teens to help them cope with the concern for their penile shape.
