Abstract
Purpose: The goal of our study was to investigate the relationship between sleep disordered breathing (SDB) and nocturnal enuresis (NE) in patients who required adenotonsillectomy.

Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review with prospective data collection from patients who underwent adenotonsillectomy between January 2010 and July 2010. From this, we determined the prevalence of NE before surgery and analyzed the changes in frequency of NE and SDB after surgery among 80 patients.

Results: The prevalence of NE among all participating patients was 6.4%. The NE prevalence according to age was 18.8% in 5-year old and 13.3% in 6-year-old patients. Post-operatively, 68.8% (55 out of 80 patients with SDB) were free of SDB and 80% (four out of five patients with NE) of patients were free of NE.

Conclusions: The prevalence of NE among patients with SDB was not different from that of normal individuals. Adenotonsillectomy may resolve or markedly improve NE in the vast majority of patients with SDB.
